Product Features

  • 48Gbps 8K@60Hz over active optical fiber: The active optical (AOC) construction carries 48Gbps for 8K@60Hz and 4K@120Hz over hybrid OM3 fiber, where passive copper cables cannot hold an 8K signal across long distances.
  • Directional Source-to-Display design: One connector is marked Source and connects to the source device while the Display end connects to the TV or projector; the active optics must be connected in this direction to pass signal.
  • Slim, long-run, CL3 in-wall: At an OD of 4.8 mm the cable is thin and light for pulling through conduit and walls, with a CL3 in-wall rating and lengths from 25 to 150 ft for projector and across-room runs.
  • Full HDMI 2.1 feature support: Supports eARC, HDR, HDCP, EDID and CEC, and draws power from the HDMI port with no external power adapter required.
  • Versatile Applications: Connects ceiling-mounted projectors, 8K and 4K TVs, conference room displays, gaming PCs and AV systems over long distances where copper HDMI cannot reach.

Product Description

50ft 8K Fiber Optic HDMI 2.1 Cable, 48Gbps, for Projector & Long Runs, CL3 In-Wall, Black

The Ultra High Speed 8K HDMI 2.1 Active Optical Cable carries a 48Gbps signal over hybrid optical fiber, making it built for long runs that a passive copper cable cannot handle. It connects a source device to a distant display at 8K@60Hz or 4K@120Hz, which is the situation a ceiling projector, a wall-mounted 8K television or an across-room AV setup creates. Available from 25 to 150 ft, it covers the distances where standard copper HDMI loses the 8K signal.

One end of the cable is a 19-pin HDMI Type A male connector marked Source, which plugs into the output of a media player, console, gaming PC or AV receiver. The gold-flash contacts resist corrosion, and the active optics inside the connector convert the electrical signal for transmission over the fiber, drawing power directly from the HDMI port without an external adapter.

The opposite end is a 19-pin HDMI Type A male connector marked Display, which plugs into the projector or television. Because the cable is directional, the Source and Display ends are not interchangeable, and connecting them in reverse will not pass a picture. This active optical design is what allows a full 48Gbps signal to travel 50, 100 or 150 ft without the signal loss that limits passive copper.

Inside, an OM3 hybrid fiber and copper assembly is wrapped in a slim 4.8 mm jacket that is light enough to pull through conduit and is CL3 in-wall rated for routing inside walls. The cable is UL recognized (E468040) and RoHS compliant, meeting common requirements for permanent and in-wall installation.

For home theater and AV, the cable reaches a ceiling-mounted projector and supports HDR for high-contrast 8K and 4K video, plus eARC so audio can return from a display to a soundbar or receiver over the same run. It also serves conference rooms, digital signage and gaming PCs placed far from the screen, and its slim profile keeps long runs manageable behind walls and above ceilings where a thick copper cable would be hard to route.

This active optical cable is offered in 25, 35, 50, 65, 75, 100 and 150 ft lengths for long and in-wall runs. It is compatible with 8K and 4K HDMI 2.1 sources and displays, including projectors, TVs and consoles. For short desktop, console or living-room runs from 3 to 15 ft, choose the Cable Leader Ultra High Speed 8K HDMI 2.1 copper cable instead.

Product Comparison: 8K Fiber Optic HDMI vs 8K Copper HDMI

Both cables carry the same 48Gbps HDMI 2.1 signal, so the difference is the construction and the distance each is meant for. This active optical (AOC) fiber cable holds 8K across long 25 to 150 ft runs, while passive copper is best kept to short runs up to about 15 ft. Use the table below to choose based on distance.

Feature 8K Fiber Optic HDMI (This Cable) 8K Copper HDMI
Cable Type Active optical (AOC), fiber Passive copper
Recommended Distance Long runs, 25 to 150 ft Short runs, up to about 15 ft
Directionality Directional (Source to Display) Bi-directional
Maximum Resolution 8K@60Hz, 4K@120Hz 8K@60Hz, 4K@120Hz
Bandwidth 48 Gbps 48 Gbps
Routing and Profile Slim 4.8 mm, CL3 in-wall, conduit-friendly Thicker, suited to short exposed runs
Power Powered by the HDMI port (no adapter) No power required (passive)
Best For Projectors, in-wall, conference rooms, across-room PS5, Xbox, gaming monitors, desktop and console runs

FAQ

What is the difference between an 8K fiber optic HDMI cable and an 8K copper HDMI cable?

An 8K fiber optic (active optical) HDMI cable carries the 48Gbps signal over fiber, so it holds 8K@60Hz across long runs of 25 to 150 ft. An 8K copper cable is passive and works best for short runs up to about 15 ft. Choose fiber when the distance is long; choose copper for short desktop or console runs.

Does this cable support 8K@60Hz, 4K@120Hz, eARC, HDR and projectors?

Yes. It supports 8K@60Hz, 4K@120Hz, eARC, HDR, HDCP and CEC over the full 48Gbps bandwidth. It works with 8K and 4K HDMI 2.1 projectors, televisions, consoles and AV receivers, and the long lengths suit ceiling-mounted projectors and across-room setups where the source sits far from the screen.

Can an HDMI cable really carry 8K over a long distance, and can it go in walls?

Yes. Because it is an active optical cable, the signal travels over fiber and maintains 48Gbps where passive copper would drop the 8K signal. The cable is CL3 in-wall rated and only 4.8 mm thick, so it can be routed inside walls and through conduit.

How do I connect it, which way round does it go, and does it need power?

The cable is directional. Connect the Source end to the source device and the Display end to the projector or TV; connecting them in reverse will not pass a picture. It draws power from the HDMI port, so no external power adapter is required.

Which length should I choose for a projector or across-room run?

Measure the full path including any rise to a ceiling projector and add some slack, then pick the next length up, from 25 ft for a near wall to 100 or 150 ft for a long ceiling or in-wall run. For short runs under about 15 ft, an 8K copper HDMI cable is more economical.
