Product Features

  • Crosses the polish border in one all-SC cable: the green SC/APC end (65 dB min return loss) mates FTTH wall outlets and splitters while the blue SC/UPC end (55 dB min) mates legacy SC data ports, replacing a coupler workaround with one factory link.
  • Push-pull SC format on both ends: both connectors use the 31.8 mm SC body that seats positively in wall plates, splitter trays, and equipment bays without a latch to snag during installation.
  • Corning G657A1 bend insensitive single mode fiber: 9/125 um OS2-grade glass holds signal through tight wall-outlet routing and remains compatible with installed G652D single mode plant.
  • Factory-tested low-loss termination: each SC connector is tested to 0.30 dB maximum insertion loss at 1310/1550 nm, with return loss of 55 dB minimum at the UPC end and 65 dB minimum at the APC end.
  • Versatile Applications: connects SC/APC wall plates, splitters, and distribution terminals to legacy SC/UPC ONTs, media converters, and SC-port switches in FTTH homes, MDUs, and access networks where the two SC standards meet.

Product Description

3m SC/UPC to SC/APC Simplex Single Mode Fiber Patch Cable, OS2 9/125 Corning, LSZH/OFNR, Yellow

The CableLeader FB122-96XX is an OS2 simplex hybrid patch cable in all-SC format: a green SC/APC connector on one end, a blue SC/UPC connector on the other, on one Corning single mode fiber in a single 2.0 mm jacket. It bridges angle-polished FTTH plant and flat-polished SC equipment — the junction found wherever a GPON outlet feeds an older ONT, media converter, or SC-port device — and is offered from 1 m through 5 m.

Orientation is fixed by the polish. The green SC/APC end plugs into green APC ports — fiber wall outlets, GPON splitters, and distribution terminals — where the 8-degree angled endface holds return loss at 65 dB minimum and keeps reflection out of the shared PON plant. The blue SC/UPC end plugs into blue UPC ports — legacy ONTs, media converters, and SC-port switches — at the 55 dB UPC standard. Never reverse the ends: mismatched endfaces leave an air gap and can permanently damage both ferrules.

Both ends use the push-pull SC body with a 31.8 mm boot, the format that seats positively in wall plates, splitter trays, and equipment bays without a latch to snag. Simplex construction carries the one optical path a GPON drop actually uses — one strand, one link, no unused fiber — and both terminations are factory-tested to 0.30 dB maximum insertion loss at 1310/1550 nm.

The jacket is LSZH/OFNR rated under UL file E510298. Low-smoke zero-halogen material limits toxic emissions in enclosed equipment rooms and residential installs, while the OFNR riser rating permits vertical runs between floors. The yellow jacket is the industry marker for single mode cable, keeping OS2 runs visually distinct from aqua and orange multimode patching, and RoHS compliance covers restricted-substance procurement requirements.

The Corning G657A1 fiber grade is bend insensitive, tolerating the tight routing radii found in wall enclosures, cable managers, and FTTH outlets without the attenuation spikes standard G652D fiber shows under the same handling. It remains fully compatible with installed G652D single mode plant, so the cable drops into existing OS2 structured cabling, splice trays, and panels.

Compatibility & Ordering Information — FB122-96XX connects green SC/APC ports (fiber wall outlets, GPON splitters, distribution terminals) to blue SC/UPC ports (legacy ONTs, media converters, SC-port switches). Match each end to its port color before patching. The family is offered from 1 m through 5 m; select the variant covering the run plus a service loop. For an all-APC SC simplex jump see the FB121-96XX family; for the hybrid jump toward LC-port equipment see FB120-92XX.

Product Comparison: Hybrid SC/UPC-SC/APC vs All-APC SC Simplex

Both cables are OS2 simplex in push-pull SC format on Corning 9/125 G657A1 fiber; the difference is the polish at each end, which must match the two ports being joined. The table summarizes the decision:

AttributeHybrid SC/UPC–SC/APC (this product)All-APC SC/APC–SC/APC Simplex

Best ForThe APC/UPC border at the subscriber endLinks where both ports are green APC

Select this hybrid cable when one SC port is green APC and the other is blue UPC — the typical case where a GPON outlet feeds a legacy SC/UPC device.
Select the all-APC simplex version when both ports are green SC/APC. Always match connector color to port color before patching; the two polishes never intermate.

FAQ

What is the difference between SC/UPC and SC/APC connectors?

Both are push-pull SC bodies; they differ in polish. SC/APC is green with an 8-degree angled endface rated 65 dB minimum return loss, the FTTH plant standard; SC/UPC is blue with a flat/domed endface rated 55 dB, common on legacy ONTs and media converters. The two are not intermateable — this hybrid cable carries one of each so both port types share one link.

Is this cable compatible with my FTTH wall outlet and older ONT?

Yes — if the wall outlet or splitter port is green SC/APC and the ONT, media converter, or switch port is blue SC/UPC, the exact pairing this cable is built for. Plug green to the wall, blue to the equipment. If both ports are green APC, use the all-APC SC simplex family instead.

What loss ratings does this cable carry?

Each SC connector is factory-tested to 0.30 dB maximum insertion loss at 1310/1550 nm. Return loss follows the polish: 65 dB minimum at the green SC/APC end and 55 dB minimum at the blue SC/UPC end. The single Corning 9/125 um G657A1 strand is OS2 grade across the 1 m to 5 m family.

How do I install an SC/UPC to SC/APC hybrid cable correctly?

Match colors first: green SC/APC end into the green wall outlet or splitter port, blue SC/UPC end into the blue equipment port. Both ends are push-pull — insert straight until each seats with a positive stop, and pull the body, not the cable, to release. Never reverse the ends; mismatched endfaces damage both ferrules.

Which SC patch cable is best — hybrid UPC-APC or all-APC?

Choose this hybrid when one port is green APC and the other is blue UPC, the typical outlet-to-legacy-ONT case. Choose the FB121-96XX all-APC simplex family when both ports are green SC/APC, as in outlet-to-outlet or all-APC plant runs. Check the colors of the two ports; they decide the cable.
