Product Features

  • ST bayonet connectors on both ends: the twist-lock ST coupling seats with a quarter turn and resists vibration and accidental unplugging, matching legacy single mode distribution frames, older switches, and industrial or security fiber links.
  • Corning G657A1 bend insensitive single mode fiber: 9/125 um OS2-grade glass tolerates tight routing and stays compatible with installed G652D single mode plant.
  • Low-loss UPC polish on every end: factory-terminated ST/UPC ferrules are tested to 0.30 dB max insertion loss and 55 dB min return loss per connector at 1310/1550 nm.
  • LSZH/OFNR riser-rated jacket: yellow 2.0 mm duplex zipcord carries UL file E510298 marking, low-smoke zero-halogen rated for riser shafts and enclosed telecom rooms.
  • Versatile Applications: maintains and extends ST-terminated legacy single mode plant — older campus backbones, industrial links, and test benches — where equipment predates the LC and SC formats.

Product Description

15m ST to ST Single Mode Fiber Patch Cable, OS2 9/125 Duplex Corning, LSZH/OFNR, Yellow

The CableLeader FB135-94XX is an OS2 single mode duplex patch cable terminated with ST/UPC bayonet connectors on both ends. Inside the yellow zipcord jacket run two Corning 9/125 um G657A1 fibers, wired straight through for duplex links. The ST format — a 2.5 mm ferrule in a round bayonet coupling that twist-locks with a quarter turn — is the legacy single mode standard, and an all-ST cable is the direct link for maintaining or extending installed ST infrastructure.

Both ends carry ST/UPC bayonet connectors. The twist-lock coupling seats with a quarter turn and resists vibration and accidental unplugging, which is why ST persists in older distribution frames, industrial cabinets, utility networks, and security fiber runs. Each ST ferrule is polished to UPC grade and factory-tested to 0.30 dB max insertion loss and 55 dB min return loss at 1310/1550 nm, matching the optical grade of CableLeader's LC and SC single mode families.

The G657A1 fiber grade tolerates tighter routing than older single mode cordage. Rated bend insensitive, it holds the loss budget when the cable routes through crowded vertical managers, slack spools, and wall enclosures without the attenuation spikes standard G652D fiber shows. G657A1 remains fully compatible with G652D infrastructure, so this patch cable drops into existing ST-terminated OS2 structured cabling and splice trays without link-budget surprises.

The jacket is LSZH/OFNR rated under UL file E510298. Low-smoke zero-halogen material suits enclosed equipment rooms and plenum-adjacent spaces where cable fire behavior matters, and the OFNR riser rating covers vertical floor-to-floor runs. The 2.0 mm x 4.1 mm duplex zipcord profile keeps each fiber protected in its own sub-unit while staying flexible for panel-side dressing. RoHS compliance covers restricted-substance procurement requirements.

Deployment is legacy-focused by definition. Utility and industrial networks service ST-port field equipment; enterprise and campus teams maintain older ST backbones not yet migrated to LC; broadcast and security installations extend existing ST runs; and lab benches keep ST test sets in service. Where a modern LC switch must connect to an ST panel, a hybrid LC-ST cable bridges the two formats; for all-new single mode builds, LC is the current density standard.

Compatibility & Ordering Information — FB135-94XX mates with any standards-compliant ST/UPC single mode port, including legacy ST panels, older single mode switches and transport gear, industrial and utility fiber equipment, and ST-port test instruments. The family is offered from 1 m through 15 m; select the variant covering the equipment-to-panel distance plus a service loop. For LC-to-ST hybrid links see the FB133-93XX family; for modern LC-to-LC links see the FB131-91XX family; SC and APC versions are listed separately in the CableLeader fiber optic cables catalog.

Product Comparison: ST-ST vs LC-LC Single Mode Patch Cable (Legacy vs Modern)

Both cables use identical Corning OS2 9/125 G657A1 fiber and UPC polish; the difference is the connector generation and the equipment each serves. The table summarizes the decision:

AttributeST-ST OS2 (this product)LC-LC OS2
Connector EndsST/UPC bayonet twist-lock on both endsLC/UPC latch on both ends
Equipment EraLegacy ST panels, older switches, industrial/security fiberCurrent switches, SFP optics, high-density LC panels
LockingBayonet twist-lock, vibration resistantPush-latch, tool-free
Optical Performance0.30 dB max IL, 55 dB min RL per connectorIdentical rating; connector format does not affect loss
Best ForMaintaining or extending installed ST plantNew and high-density LC single mode links

Select the ST-ST version to service legacy ST equipment.
Select the LC-LC version (FB131 family) for modern single mode links.

FAQ

What is the difference between ST and LC fiber connectors?

ST is an older bayonet connector with a 2.5 mm ferrule that twist-locks with a quarter turn, common on legacy panels and industrial links; LC is a compact push-latch connector with a 1.25 mm ferrule, standard on modern switches and SFP optics. They are not interchangeable — ST-ST cables exist to service installed ST equipment.

Is this cable compatible with my older single mode ST equipment?

Yes. Both ends are ST/UPC on OS2 9/125 single mode fiber, matching ST-port panels, older single mode switches, transport gear, and industrial or security fiber links. It stays compatible with installed G652D single mode plant, so it drops into existing ST-terminated structured cabling without link-budget surprises.

What do OS2 and 9/125 mean on this cable?

OS2 is the standard designation for low-water-peak single mode cabling used in long-run links, and 9/125 describes the glass geometry: a 9 um core inside a 125 um cladding. The small core carries a single light mode at 1310/1550 nm, letting single mode links span kilometers rather than the hundreds of meters typical of multimode.

How do I connect the ST bayonet connector correctly?

Align the ST connector's key slot with the receptacle, push straight in, and twist a quarter turn until the bayonet locks — do not force past the stop. Avoid touching the ferrule endface, keep the cable free of sharp bends at the connector, and leave a small service loop so the connection is never under tension.

Should I still buy ST cabling for a new installation?

Choose ST-ST only to maintain or extend installed ST equipment — legacy panels, industrial links, or older test benches. For any new single mode build, LC (FB131 family) is the current standard and offers higher port density; SC is the mid-generation alternative. Match the cable to the connectors already on your equipment.
