Product Features

20A/250V Heavy Duty Construction: 12 AWG (3.31 mm²) three-conductor SJT jacket carries 20 amps continuous at 250 volts, providing the headroom required by blade servers, core routers, and Layer 3 switches that draw above the 10A C13/C14 ceiling.
155°C C21 High-Temperature Receptacle: The C21 receptacle is rated to 155°C (311°F), well above the 70°C limit of standard C13 and C19 receptacles, so it stays safe inside hot-aisle racks and against C22 inlets on high-density compute and storage equipment.
12 AWG vs 14 AWG Lower Temperature Rise: 12 AWG conductors run roughly 15°F cooler than 14 AWG at 20A continuous load, reducing thermal stress on the cable, the rack environment, and the connector terminations over long duty cycles.
UL and cUL Listed for Data Center Compliance: Listed under UL file E204978 (cable) and E210037 (plug), cUL listed for Canadian deployments, and RoHS compliant; the cable jacket carries VW-1 (UL) and FT2 (cUL) flame ratings required by most data center cabling specifications.
Versatile Applications: Connects PDU C20 outlets to server, switch, router, and storage equipment with C22 inlets in 1U/2U rack environments, including blade servers, core routers, L3 switches, SAN/NAS controllers, HPC nodes, and AI training equipment in colocation, enterprise, telco, and on-premise data centers.

Product Description

10ft IEC320 C20 to C21 Heavy Duty Power Extension Cord, 12 AWG, 20A/250V, SJT, Black

This C20 to C21 power cord is a heavy duty PDU power cord engineered for the 20A/250V circuits that power modern data center hardware. Built with 12 AWG SJT three-conductor cable, a molded IEC 60320 C20 plug, and a molded C21 receptacle rated to 155°C, it is the standard interconnect between rack PDUs and the blade servers, core routers, and high-density compute nodes that require a heavy-gauge connection. UL Listed, cUL Listed, and RoHS compliant, it meets the cabling specifications enforced in colocation, enterprise, and telco facilities across North America.

The IEC 60320 C20 plug at the PDU end is the male inlet connector defined by IEC 60320 for 20A/250V appliance couplers. It mates with the C19 outlets found on virtually every 20A rack-mount PDU shipped by Tripp Lite/Eaton, APC, CyberPower, Vertiv, and Raritan, providing the dedicated 20A circuit headroom that 10A C13/C14 cords cannot deliver. The straight-blade molded body locks securely against the PDU outlet without an adapter, and the L/N/E wiring follows the one-to-one mapping defined in IEC 60320-1.

The IEC 60320 C21 receptacle at the equipment end is the high-temperature counterpart of the more common C19. Externally it is nearly identical to a C19, with one extra chamfered notch on the keying surface, but its 155°C (311°F) thermal rating makes it the only C19-family receptacle approved against C22 inlets on equipment that runs hot. The 155°C rating applies to the connector body itself; combined with the 105°C SJT cable jacket, the assembly is rated for sustained operation in hot-aisle racks and high-density compute enclosures where ambient temperatures routinely exceed the 70°C limit of standard C19 receptacles.

This power cord is UL Listed under file E204978 (cable) and E210037 (plug), carries cUL listing for Canadian installations, and is RoHS compliant. The SJT cable jacket carries VW-1 flame rating under UL and FT2 under cUL, both required by data center electrical infrastructure specifications. The voltage marking on the jacket reads 300V to reflect cable insulation capability, while the assembly's 250V rating reflects the C20/C21 connector limit defined by IEC 60320-1, which is the binding rating for product specification purposes.

The 12 AWG conductor cross-section is the differentiator that separates this cord from generic 14 AWG and 16 AWG power cords. At 20A continuous load, 12 AWG conductors operate roughly 15°F cooler than 14 AWG conductors, reducing thermal stress on the cable, the connector terminations, and the surrounding rack airflow. This matters in hot-aisle environments where rack power distribution and bandwidth capacity push voltage requirement and equipment compatibility to their limits. Typical applications include blade server chassis, core routers, Layer 3 switches, SAN/NAS controllers, HPC nodes, AI training racks, and any 20A C22-inlet equipment in colocation, enterprise, telco, and on-premise server room environments.

Compatibility & Ordering Information: This 7 ft length fits standard 1U through 4U rack drops between adjacent or near-adjacent rack units. The cord is compatible with 20A C19-outlet rack PDUs from Tripp Lite/Eaton, APC, CyberPower, Vertiv, and Raritan, and with rack-mount IT equipment featuring C22 inlets, including Dell PowerEdge R-series, HPE ProLiant DL series, IBM Power Systems, Cisco Nexus and Catalyst high-power switches, and most blade chassis from major OEMs. Available lengths in this PW151 family include 1 ft, 2 ft, 3 ft, 4 ft, 5 ft, 6 ft, 7 ft, 8 ft, 10 ft, and 15 ft to match common rack spacing requirements. For circuits below 20A, see the PW105 family (C13 to C14, 10A); for the reverse C19 to C20 direction at the same 20A rating, see the PW150 family.

FAQ

Q1: What is the difference between a C20 and a C19 plug?

A C20 is a male plug used at the cord end, while a C19 is a female receptacle used on equipment inlets and PDU outlets — they mate together. The visual confusion is between the C19 and C21 receptacles, which look almost identical except the C21 has one additional chamfered notch on the keying surface and is rated to 155°C versus the C19's 70°C limit.

Q2: Is this C20 to C21 power cord compatible with my PDU?

Yes, if your PDU has a C19 outlet rated for 20A. The C20 plug end mates with the C19 outlets standard on 20A rack PDUs from Tripp Lite/Eaton, APC, CyberPower, Vertiv, and Raritan. The C21 end requires a C22 inlet on the equipment side, found on blade servers, core routers, and other high-temperature 20A devices.

Q3: Why does this cable use 12 AWG instead of 14 AWG?

12 AWG is required for sustained 20A operation under most data center electrical codes and runs approximately 15°F cooler than 14 AWG at the same load. 14 AWG is rated for 15A circuits; selecting it for a 20A application reduces safety margin in hot-aisle rack environments and shortens connector lifespan over long duty cycles.

Q4: How do I connect a C20 to C21 power cord between my PDU and server?

Plug the C20 male end into a C19 outlet on the rack PDU and plug the C21 female end onto the C22 inlet on the equipment chassis. Both ends are keyed for orientation and seat with a positive feel; no tools are needed. Verify the PDU outlet is rated for 20A and confirm the equipment label specifies a C22 inlet before connecting.

Q5: Which length C20 to C21 power cord is best for my server rack?

Match the cord length to the vertical distance between the PDU outlet and the equipment inlet, plus 6 to 12 inches for service loop and bend radius. The 7 ft length suits most mid-rack drops in 42U cabinets; choose 3 to 5 ft for adjacent-U connections, 8 to 10 ft for top-of-rack PDUs feeding bottom-of-rack equipment, and 15 ft for cross-rack runs.
