What type of shelf bracket is strongest?
Heavy-duty brackets are typically the strongest option for supporting shelves and holding heavy objects. These are ideal for mounting equipment in data centers or server rooms. How many brackets do I need for a shelf?
The number of brackets needed for a shelf depends on the shelf length and the expected load. As a general guideline:
- For shelves up to 68", use 3 brackets
- For shelves between 69" and 100", use 4 brackets
- For shelves between 101" and 132", use 5 brackets
- For shelves between 133" and 164", use 6 brackets
It's also recommended to use drywall anchors when installing brackets on drywall for added support and stability, especially for heavy loads.
How far should a shelf bracket extend?
When selecting shelf brackets, it's best to choose brackets that are slightly shorter than the depth of the shelves.
